It bubbles and gurgles
and spits water back up
and it floods the sink every time I turn on the tap.
Is there a snake in there,
its coils constricted
by the solidarity of the pipes?
Or maybe a turtle
whose beak-like jaws push the water
outwards and upwards
and always overflowing.
Perhaps it's a mouse
constantly pumping water
out of its teeny tiny home
where no one will see.
Maybe it's the sunflower seed I dropped
weeks and months and years ago,
and it lodged itself in the crevices of darkness
and began to grow
feeding off the absence of light
and its own hopes of someday
being able to be seen.
Let's hope it's that.
