My Plight at Being Vegan

So I know I didn't post again yesterday, but I have no excuses. So I continue my effort to try to post everyday, and I'm working out the kinks as I go.
Alrighty, so today as I was looking at other blogs trying to think of what to write, I thought of my 6 month trial of being vegan.
And how much I failed at it.
Here's the story.

How I Tried to Be Vegan and My Ultimate Failure
Now, I love animals and everything, but that wasn't my reason for going vegan. I could probably easily be vegetarian, since I really don't enjoy meat as much as I used to when I was younger (like the time when I was eight and ate an 18 ounce steak. And mashed potatoes. And green beans. And two rolls.). But the real reason I tried to go vegan because I wanted to test myself and see how some people live. I always try testing myself, seeing what I can let go or how long I can wait to do something (or hold my pee as you already know, but that wasn't really a choice). And so I decided to try being vegan.

Note: I LOVE DAIRY PRODUCTS! I love cheese so much I could live off of it, obviously I like gelato more than an average person should, and I used to drink a humongous glass of milk everyday (I hated it until I was in the fourth grade, then got obsessed, and now I'm backing off again mainly due to my veganism plight).

But I thought I could do this. And so I began my journey.
Family dinners didn't work very well. My parents weren't going to go meat-less and dairy-less just because I said so, even if we eat vegetarian meals at least twice a week. So I vowed to be a vegan in every other aspect of life, and eat as little meat and dairy as possible during dinner.

OKAY SO I KNOW PEOPLE ARE GOING TO BE LIKE, "YOU JUST DID THIS FOR ATTENTION, YOU WEREN'T EVEN TOTALLY COMMITED!"
I know I wasn't totally meat/dairy free. But I really wanted to do this, to be as vegan as I possibly could, and if you really look at the facts, being vegan is better for and environment as well as being good for you. And I care about the environment and try to do the best that I can to be as earth friendly as possible taking in the consideration of where I live.

But back to being vegan.
I'm mostly going to talk about how this came into play on my weekends just because that's where the most problems occurred, and not at school lunch, where I figured out a plan (i.e coffee without real/dairy cream).
If I was at home, I was okay. I had vegan Amy's soup and frozen meals, and I didn't really crave dairy.
And at some restaurants, I was okay. Thai had plenty of options, along with cafes, while Red Robin did not (I broke one day and ate there, and felt gross the next day).

But at forensics, I felt bad because I was creating problems. At first I was like, hey, I can survive on gummy worms! Then I found out they had gelatin in them.

So I started bring Odwalla bars and drinking Naked Juice, and it was okay. But people still felt bad about lunch tickets and stuff, and I kept telling them that it didn't matter.

But I screwed up a lot, and people realized that I wasn't really trying.
I was at first. But after so long, you can only stare at the back of the packages of all your food before you freak out. You avoid the obvious offenders of course.
But most of the time you just eat stuff and don't question what's in it (like cake).
And then when people ask you if you're still vegan, you say not really.

(Not sure why/what this photo is or means, but I added it.)
The one thing I can say is that when I was "vegan", I felt better. Like, more awake, and for some reason I could breathe easier.
The downside is that you're always hungry.
So maybe someday when I live in a place that is more hospitable to people who don't/ can't eat meat or dairy, I'll try it again. But I don't want people to feel bad or be annoyed by what I'm trying to do, or my ideas.
But I guess that's their problem.
Sorry about my rant and all, but that's all I really wanted to talk about today.
Quote time! YAAAAAAAAAAY!
"Choose a job you love, and you'll never work a day in your life."
-Confucius
Sigh. I hope I can figure out what I want to do. I love making music, but I know I don't practice enough, and don't really know what I would do with it to create it into a job. But I have a couple years to figure that out.
I also have to find somewhere to volunteer, because I need something to do and I also admit I have to get it out of the way.
Well, I'll see everybody later. I WILL POST TOMORROW! :)

Wheeeee!

So you probably thought I didn't post yesterday, but I did! It's a new page that I'll probably be updating eventually, but still! I accomplished something! Yaaaaaaay!

So I still haven't seen the movie yet......but there is still hope, no? Maybe this week, but I know the theaters around here are going to be taking it out soon, so I better get it together.
I REALLY NEED TO GO TO THE LIBRARY! I'm rereading The Help which I love, but I need new books. I could use my Kindle, but I feel bad about spending so much money when I could read for free, and I rather be reading a dusty old book in a corner of my local creaking library, where the librarian knows me by name and asks about the books I'm reading and if she should read them. I recommended her The Catcher in the Rye, so we'll see how that goes. She told me she read it when she was younger, but didn't remember it well. I guess she doesn't remember all the F-Bombs either...

Man, I love Uncommon Goods. But anyway, about the book, I really liked it, even though a lot of people (mainly adults) don't. I also liked The Great Gatsby (duh), The Grapes of Wrath (I enjoy Steinbeck a lot), and Fahrenheit 451 (Ray Bradbury is a pretty cool guy). I found all these at my library, where even though it doesn't always have the newest and greatest books, it has a lot of the classics. And for some reason, like, twenty copies of each Harry Potter book, which I guess makes sense since they are popular, but still, 20 OF EACH COPY? A little bit ridiculous.
But hey, I like ridiculousness, so it's okay.
It's sunny and I had to come inside to type this since I felt like my face was burning off. Also, my butt fell asleep. I want some chilled soup, preferably mango and peach, which I had one time while I was spending some time in New York and WILL NEVER FORGET! It was so hot outside, and it was so cold and yummy as I looked at all the art at the festival. Now I want candy......
But coconut gelato shall do!

Soooo good and tropically... but you know I'm a sucker for coconut anyways.
Tomorrow I vow to post again, in typical fashion, perhaps after getting some of my summer assignments done. Heck, it may be June, but I hate worrying about crap.
A parting quote for your troubles....
"For the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: 'If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?' And whenever the answer has been 'No' for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something."
-Steve Jobs
I know that many people, including myself (the true, stubborn Capricorn I am), hate some of the changes that occur in our lives, but I just look past them to what the best result of the situation that could come from the change. And now I appreciate it, since change allows me to adapt and hopefully become a better person.
Deep diving in the ocean once again.
I want this poster so bad....(gotta love Vlogbrothers).
Catch you later.

Today

So yeah, today was filled his memories, sadness, and a lot of gelato.
Gelato probably being the least important.

But so good......
Anyways, I said goodbye to a lot of my friends who are going off to college, and I know I'm going to miss them. A lot.
It was rainy today, and even though I love it when it rains, it seemed different today, as if colder and dark, even regretful. That was pretty depressing.
Today was technically my last day of school (even if I wasn't in it), and that made me sort of sad too. I had a really good year, and hopefully I remember all the random things that happened.
I was also bored to tears today.
I wanted to do a DIY, but didn't have what I needed to do it. I wanted to play a game, but had no one to play it with. I wanted to sleep, but my body said, "NOOOOOOOO!"
I wanted to cry, but apparently after not doing that for four years, it doesn't work either.

It took me forever to write something, because I had nothing to say. I was going to do a post on how Las Vegas is scary, but then I didn't want to freak people out so I didn't.
Yeah.
I need ideas, and I know this post in whiny, but I really can't think of anything.
So......MEMES! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!

Walrus and seal edition.
Okay, quote time.

So try everything, do what you can with the time you have, and always clean your sink drain at least once a month.
'Cause it gonna get nasty up in there.

Yeah.

Swinging

Yeah, I need to get back to this posting business.
You see, I don't know what I'm going to write about, so I'm going to make food and come back and see if I thought up anything.

Oh my gosh, I learned this a couple of days ago, and nobody believes me! They think that I'm lying, but why would I lie about something so epic? I wonder if a lobster could survive a nuclear explosion........Oh ho ho this gives me an idea!
IMMORTAL LOBSER POST!
Well, I started thinking of ideas, but eventually I decided to make cookies. Except I ate half of the dough, baked the rest, and felt disgusting. So I forgot to post this post. Whoops. I'll try to have another one done by the end of the day since I feel bad.
REPONSIBILITY, YOU HAVE FAILED ME!

This is What I felt Like Writing

So, yeah, I didn't want to do a real post, so I wrote this. Yeah, I don't really know why either. But, enjoy?

The man surveyed his yard with a smug smile, and reclined slowly back into his lawn chair. Here, he was king of the suburbs, watching over the slowly fanning sprinklers and perfectly manicured lawns of each identical house as the hours passed by. Nobody knew his name, but nobody really needed to, and he liked it that way. He was ruler without a title, and that is how it would stay.
His sloping stomach met his Hawaiian print trunks, and dark navy (at one time maybe black) was the open space that each fiery pink hibiscus floated on, stretching out to oblivion. The sweat of the ice tea glass that he grasped in his right hand met his own, and the dab of sunscreen on his nose began to blend in with the puffiness of his red cheeks. Eyes closed, he held his face towards the sun in an attempt to gather as many rays as he could as he relished the day and its heat.
Today, he was the duke of the neighborhood, commanding over the empty yards as men and women typed away in their offices and the heads of the children drooped towards their desk as they stared out the window, longing to be set free from the institution that would hold them for another week.
He always saw himself in charge, silently guarding his kingdom from intruders (such as squirrels and lost tourists), basking in the glow of the sun. As he relaxed, the wrinkles lessened their grip on his skin, his muscles lost all the tenseness, and his eyes closed like moths slowly lowering their wings, as if for the last time.
But that time hadn't come yet.

So yaaaay! That's what I did instead. Man, am I tired. Want a quote?
"My great hope is to laugh as much as I cry; to get my work done and try to love somebody and have the courage to accept the love in return."
-Maya Angelou
Sweet dreams, chilluns.

Weird things You Do with Your Friends

Hey, stuff happens. But your friends are there, and you do whatever you can together to make the time pass faster and to make it worthwhile.
Like this.

Hey, I don't judge.
So I felt like writing about all the weird things I do with my friends. Except I'm gonna change their names for their privacy. Also, I like using random names.
1. The "Ting" Head Touch
Okay, so one of my alter-egos is name Ting (long story that I'll explain some other time). Well, when my friend Latifah*found this out, she got really excited, and now when she sees me in the hallways, we both freak out, run towards each other, almost touch our heads together and yell, "TING!" like one would if trying to imitate a bell. It's pretty awesome, and everyone else sort of stares awkwardly and wishes they were us. Okay maybe not, but that is their problem.
2. ER MER GERD
So everyone knows about the meme, but I'm fluent in the language. I speak it, but am also able to text in it. So I started using it all the time, and now my friend Monique* speaks it too, and we talk to each other. People freak out, and of course the cool ones join in, and it's like we have our own weird little nation. Well, I guess a nation of people who can't talk right since their mouth is messed up or something...

3. Mexican Rainbow
Okay, so when I joined Ski Club in 8th grade, I began riding coach buses a lot. Then one time, there was this one that had a rainbow on the ceiling, and for some reason I thought it looked like those Mexican blankets with the colors and stuff (obviously that was a great description :p), so I yelled out, "MEXICAN RAINBOW!" And it became sort of a joke.
But then this year, I started riding more buses for forensics, and I looked up at the ceiling on one morning and yelled, "MEXICAN RAINBOW" and got really excited and happy and started laughing, and after explaining it to some of my friends, they thought it was funny. So now when we get a Mexican Rainbow Bus, Latoya*, Shaniqua*, and I scream, "MEXICAN RAINBOW"! And it's great.
Fun Fact: I once found part of a wine cork on a Mexican Rainbow Bus.

(tiny pic of MEXICAN RAINBOW)
4.Chipotle
You know how when you're with your friends all you talk about is Chipotle? And when people are like, "What's a Chipotle?" your posse is like, "OH NO YOU DID-N'T!" and you talk about the joys of huge burritos and happiness and all the fillings and how awesome it is. And then when you are in D.C but you're not supposed to leave the National Mall but there is a Chipotle just three blocks away everyone whimpers and heads towards a food truck because you really don't want to get in trouble? Oh, you don't? Huh..... that's weird...... I guess you and your friends don't have something special.
5. Awkward Stuff Happens But It's All Okay
Like when your friend sews your shirt onto you, or you check each other for food stains, or you pick them up when they are passing out in front of the vending machine.
There's brushing crap off their butt after sitting in the grass, shoving stuff back into their pockets, fixing other clothing malfunctions, sleeping in the same bed in hotels, or eating pasta out of glasses at midnight.
It's pretending to be a mermaid while flopping around on a rock in your swimsuit and singing a song from Aladdin and not from The Little Mermaid (sorry, I swore it was "A Whole New World"), finishing sentences, lending clothing and swimsuits, and falling down on your face.
But's it's okay because these things happen and your friends are there and you'll always remember it.
So appreciate your friends if you don't realize how special they are and be glad you have them.
Quote for today!

Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another, 'What! You too? I thought I was the only one
Thanks to C.S Lewis.
Okay that's all for today. I gotta go eat ice cream or something.
*Awesome name. Not that I don't like my friends' actual names They are all pretty cool too.

GUMMY WORM ADVENTURE! (Summer so close....)

Hey everybody!
I know I took a mini break from posting (tsk, tsk, tsk), but I really needed it to study and right now is sort of my break in time for today. So I decided just to write about my day, because, hey, what the heck.
I woke up early. YEAH! Then I fell asleep again..........but I got up and got ready for school. Took a final, and then I had a break and was walking around school with my friends. We wanted food, but the only place that we could think to go is for pizza, and we were lazy. So we were walking to the playground.
BUT SUDDENLY, TENGO UNA IDEA!

"Why don't we go to that gas station that isn't that far away? I want cake." Everyone thought that was a good idea, so we started walking. I was jumping over speed bumps, being a weirdo like usual, and it was a good time.
Except after three minutes, my one friend stopped. "What if we're late for finals? I don't want to be late."
Well everyone chickened out basically, except my one friend, so we kept walking. But then we started getting worried, so we started to jog. And then we realized that the gas station was A LOT farther away than we thought, so we flat out started running. We hopped across the street, and were thinking about going back, but I wanted to press on.
So we got to the gas station, and as the other girl got ice cream and a Milky Way, I realized that you can't get cake at a gas station.
I should have realized that earlier......
BUT THEN I SAW THEM!
TROLLI SOUR BRITE CRAWLERS!

Okay, so if you are not a gummy candy enthusiast, you will probably not understand how happy this made me. These are the best gummy candies ever! Even better than that two foot long gummy snake I ate at lunch one time and I felt like something vaguely blueberry flavored was crawling around in my stomach. (Rookie does candy reviews, which I deeply enjoy, and they mention TSBCs here.)
Back to the story, I did my happy dance, and grabbed a pack, along with some Sourpatch Kids Watermelons for good measure, and headed toward the counter. Since there weren't any prices on the candy, I took a gamble and placed my treasure on the counter with the only three dollars I had, and successfully paid with thirty two cents to spare.

We booked it out of there once we paid, and after meeting up with some friends temporarily (as I screamed across the road about my gas station score), we kept moving. We slowed our pace (we were supposed to wait, but didn't want to), and walked back to school. We contemplated jumping in a pool, but thought better of it because one of the only things worse than finals is taking finals soaking wet while everyone and the teacher stares at you.
We cut through the sketchy overgrown path, and go whacked in the face by trees and weeds. We actually did this before, but I forgot to mention it. A lot more painful the first time.
We jogged up the hill, being proud of ourselves. The Watermelons, ice cream, and Milky Way were finished, and we got back to school with almost an hour to spare.
Our epic journey was complete, and it took us less than twenty minutes.
Also, all my friends who had gone back proceeded to eat my gummy worms.
Moral of the story: Epic journeys for cake ultimately end in candy, with your slightly lazy (but loveable) friends consuming a large portion of it.
But everything works out.

My hair smells like a pool (I went swimming), and I'm full of sweet potato puree with almond butter. Summer's a comin'. Just wait a little longer for more days of riding bikes without your hands on the handlebars, running through high grass and weeds during manhunt, and wondering what type bird likes to ram itself into your window at five in the morning.
Okay, time for a quote.
"In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: it goes on."
-Robert Frost
Thank goodness for Robert Frost. I read his poems from a huge musty book in the creaking library down town on the days where it is raining and you can taste it in the air before it happens.
P.S I know it doesn't matter, but there are going to be two weeks in July where it is going to be impossible to write since I will be away. Or maybe I'll figure something out?
